NSA is founded on the principles of Bruce Lee’s original art, Jun Fan Gung Fu, which is based on the belief that all martial art systems, though different, contain valuable information that enhances one’s skills and provides a basis of respect for other arts. We believe in the concept "Use all ways, reject none". NSA is open to new ideas and martial art systems. We teach techniques from arts that originated in countries such as the Philippines, Indonesia, China, Thailand, Korea, Japan, and Brazil, as well as from methods based on western fighting systems. Because of this, we encourage our students to explore and examine different martial art styles and adapt those techniques best suited for their particular needs and abilities. NSA is dedicated to guiding our students to become black belts who display high ethical conduct, show courteous behavior towards others, use the principles learned in their training to benefit themselves and others, become proficient in self-defense skills from a variety of disciplines, and will carry on the tradition of a true martial artist. NSA strives to incorporate safe, effective, and cutting edge physical fitness techniques to enhance our students’ coordination, balance, and strength. These skills can be applied to learning martial arts as well as extracurricular sports and activities. NSA is committed to the idea of life-long fitness. NSA’s objective is to be a learning center for all martial art practitioners. Our goal at NSA is to provide a safe, fun, and friendly environment where students learn martial art skills and are challenged physically and mentally. NSA also hosts well-known martial artists who conduct seminars and expose students to a variety of martial art systems. Curriculum NSA offers three basic programs based upon the age of the student: Little Dragons (4-6 years old), Junior Students (7-12 years old), and Adults. In the Junior Students and Adults programs, students receive a requirements book that details the skills and techniques they must be learn in order to get promoted to the next rank. For the Adults program, students must complete a required minimum number of hours of training at NSA in order to test for each rank promotion. At that time, students may request to be tested at the end of that month. Students that successfully demonstrate the required skills during testing are awarded their next rank. For the Junior Students program, students must train for a minimum of four months at NSA in order to test for each rank promotion. Students stripe test each month, and those who successfully demonstrate the required skills are awarded belt stripes. After a student receives three belt stripes, he/she is eligible to test for rank promotion. Junior students must attend class at least six times per month in order to test for stripes or promotions. For the Little Dragons programs, students test for stripes at each class. Students must earn at least eight colored stripes before they can receive a new rank. Rank promotions are awarded every 8-10 weeks. Protocol and Rules NSA expects our students to treat everyone with appropriate respect and courtesy. We expect each student to adhere to this rule regardless of where he/she is (work, home, school, etc). Junior Students and Little Dragons who do not maintain adequate grades or do not use proper behavior at home or school can be demoted, have stripes taken away, or be excluded from testing until the situation is corrected. Students are expected to arrive at least 10 minutes before class and they should either wait quietly in the foyer until the previous class has ended or practice off to the side. Students should be dressed in the proper uniform and non- NSA clothing is not permitted in class. Parents and families are welcome to watch class and we ask that disruptions be kept to a minimum so that our staff and students can focus on their training. Enrollment At the time of enrollment, students receive the following:
